Biography
Dr Revathi Raj has over three decades of experience in the field of paediatric haematology, oncology and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. She works full time at Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Chennai and is the Program director of the PHO unit at the centre. The unit treats over 200 children with cancer and performs about 120 transplants each year.
Dr Revathi Raj has served the local community as the Honorary President of the VHS Thalassaemia Centre in Chennai since it was established in 2005. The unit provides services like transfusion of leucodepleted packed red blood cells, chelation, endocrine, fertility, cardiac, psychosocial and BMT counselling completely free of cost. The unit has an MOU with Apollo Chennai and with Dr Revathi's expertise over 600 children are now thalassaemia free.
Her other areas of interest include Inborn Errors and Leukaemia and her research on low rates of late effects and fertility preservation with the Treosulfan protocol and other work have been published in peer reviewed journals. She is the current President of the Indian Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and hopes to take the field of transplantation to new heights in India.
